K9 Drax is a Belgian Malinois working patrol and and is also certified in narcotics and firearms detection with his handler, Officer Robert Leiva.

K9 & HANDLER BIO

Drax was born February 7, 2018 and began patrol with Officer Robert Leiva in October 2019.  Drax is a male, 90 lb, fawn Belgian Malinois that is certified in narcotics and firearms detection.

 

Drax has the ability to detect methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin. He is an fun loving and energetic dog who loves to work and play.   When he is “off duty” Drax  lives at home with Officer Leiva, his wife, and their two pet dogs.

Officer Leiva began working at the Livermore Police Department (LPD) in November 2017.  Previously he had worked for Stanislaus County Sheriff Department for 3 years. Officer Leiva is trained and has worked as a K9 decoy for both the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department and LPD.  He has been attending K9 trainings and working with the K9 unit even before becoming a handler. You may recognize him as the man in the bite suit from one of the many K9 demos at our LK9F events!
